Our Kites

Bamboo. Knife. Tissue paper. Passion. These are the ingredients of the traditional fighter kite that became infamous in the novel and movie – The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini. Basir Beria was hired to design the kites and to train the actors in the art of traditional kite fighting. Since childhood, he has been a kite enthusiast – from making them, experimenting in new designs, flying them and most enjoyable of all – competing in kite-fighting competitions.
The kites on this website are made by hand, starting with bamboo, a knife and patience. After carving and cutting the bamboo until it reaches just the right flexibility and strength, known due only to years of experience – he continues to assemble the final product using tissue paper and designs from both back home and here due to his love of art. When you see his one of a kind works, which were showcased in the movie and kite-fighting competitions around the world – you will understand what you have is something truly special.
